Our Environmental Policy

As manufacturers and distributors, Nicholls & Clarke has made a corporate commitment to improving its environmental performance through an Environmental Policy.  This will provide the framework for all our work, whether it is in relation to energy efficiency, sustainable waste management or sustainable transport. A committee (Environmental Committee) will implement this policy by developing programmes of work that constitute an Environmental Management System.
The Environmental Committee will monitor the effectiveness of its policies and actions.

Together, we will promote the best use of environmental practice and more particularly Nicholls & Clarke will:

  • Continuously improve environmental performance
  • Reduce consumption of resources
  • Measure and take action to reduce the carbon footprint of business activities
  • Ensure environmental criteria are taken into account in the procurement of goods and services
  • Encourage staff involvement in environmental issues
  • Expect similar environmental standards from all business partners
  • Meet or exceed all environmental legislation that relates to the business

To meet these commitments Nicholls & Clarke will:

  • Set and monitor strategic objectives and targets for managing environmental performance
  • Communicate internally and externally this commitment and environmental performance
  • Work together with staff and business partners to promote improved environmental performance
  • Review the environmental plicy regularly

Logistics

We own and operate a private fleet of low carbon commercial vehicles. Our transport managers hold a ‘Certificate of Professional Competence’ and ensure that we use our fleet efficiently using efficient routing and maximising vehicle capacity.

Social Responsibility

We believe that a sustainable and responsible business will ultimately become a more successful one. We respect the local communities we operate in and work closely with them ensuring we minimise our impact on them. We support a national charity that works in the local communities to our branches providing disadvantaged children with vital equipment.

Carbon Footprint

Our manufacturing processes, buildings, delivery and travel policies are monitored continuously which has already reduced our carbon emissions. We continue to invest in the latest low carbon manufacturing equipment. We make use of grey water technology, solar panels & low energy lighting systems.

Recycling

Recycling Pallets are repaired and reused internally to reduce our consumption of wood. Pallets beyond repair are sent to be recycled rather than being land filled. We also recycle plastic, paper and cardboard.

Electrical 'Take Back' Waste Scheme

As part of our environmental initiative, we will take back any electrical goods that our customers purchase from us.

What will you take back?

As a distributor of WEEE waste we offer a ‘take back scheme’ of any electronic goods that we sell. Bought an electric shower from us? We will accept your old electric shower unit free of charge. This is the same for any other electric products that we sell.

I didn’t buy my old unit from you, only the new one. Will you still take it?

Yes, we will take back any electrical item that our products replace regardless of whether you originally bought it from us.

What will happen to the waste products?

This waste will be logged then disposed of using the correct, approved channels for WEEE waste collection.

How long have I got to bring the old items back?

You have 28 days from the purchase of the new, replacement item to bring the waste item back.
