Waste Reduction and Energy Efficiency
As part of the N&C environmental strategy, all waste generated through materials, supplies, energy and transport are controlled, prevented or reduced in order to keep waste to a minimum.
Recycling is our focal duty where in 2010, the percentage of recycling reached 78%. As manufacturers, distributors and retailers, this is a huge achievement considering that N&C operate under a diverse model where each step of production is controlled to ensure efficiency and minimal wastage.
Over 90% of all glass waste produced as part of the manufacturing process is recycled as either glass sheets or in additive products for road tarmacs or glass bottes.
Recofloor Take Back Scheme
Waste vinyl flooring collected under the scheme is diverted from landfill and recycled.
The scheme accepts uplifted vinyl flooring and post-installation off-cuts. Vinyl flooring material is collected in bags and either picked up by Recofloor or dropped off at any N&C distribution depot or Recofloor drop-off site, located across the UK. The recycled flooring is either used to manufacture new flooring or used to make traffic management products such as traffic cones and road sign bases.
The Nicholls and Clarke Corporate building has been specially constructed to ensure energy efficiency in many following ways:
Each cistern has a device to reduce water consumption for toilet flushing
Lighting across the entire building is sensor activated, allowing the lights to switch off within 5 minutes of no movement with areas of the building.
The air conditioning uses less energy by filtering the required temperature of air back into the building rather than pumping it outside and then heating or cooling more air energy efficient heating system in the coming months.
