St George's Day Community charity event

Local DIY and trade superstore, N&C Building Materials based on Freshwater road hosted their free annual community family fun day on Saturday, 20th April. The eagerly awaited St George’s Fun Day had consisted of a series of FREE themed activities for all the family to enjoy, including a bouncy castle, large inflatable slide, penalty shootout, go-karts, large floor games such as connect four and jenga, face painting, popcorn, bucking bronco, balloon modelling, live music, performances, tombola, raffle and much more. As media partners to the event, the Barking & Dagenham Post held their annual Cute Kids competition on the day, with the firemen from Harold Hill Fire Station present allowing kids to explore the engine.

The event was not only held to celebrate the patriotic day, but to also raise awareness and donations through the raffle and voluntary donations to the registered charity, Children Today, a charity that raises funds to provide specialised equipment and services for children and young people with disabilities throughout the UK. The event also helped raise awareness for the Daniel Project a volunteer-driven, non-profitable organisation that functions to provide social programmes and aid in response to community issues within Barking and Dagenham.

The beautiful weather meant there was a fantastic turn out with local families spending the day in the sun, enjoying all the activities. David Forbes, CEO of the Nicholls & Clarke Group said “It was a successful day with a great turn out and a wonderful atmosphere with families enjoying the activities, stalls and food available. We raised a phenomenal amount for the charity, Children Today with donations still being sent in.”

The Mayor of Barking and Dagenham, Anthony Ramsay, attended the event and symbolically placed the final tile onto the large England Flag masterpiece put together by the local children on the day. The annual free St George’s Family Fun day has proved to be a successful event for N&C Building Materials as it has been growing year on year, with a vision to grow more in future years.
